The NCAA football betting line is out, and as usual, No. 3 ranked Oregon is a heavy favorite. Can they cover this massive point spread against Pac-10 bottom-dweller Washington State?

No. 3 Oregon Ducks (5-0 SU, 4-1 ATS)

Washington State Cougars (1-4 SU, 2-3 ATS)

Saturday, October 9: 5:00 p.m.

It sure seems likely, as Oregon comes into this game putting up points at a staggering pace. They’re averaging an almost unbelievable 56 points per game, which makes them the No. 1 scoring offense in the country.
The man who runs Chip Kelly’s spread attack is sophomore quarterback Darren Thomas.

After replacing Jeremiah Masoli, no one was quite sure what to expect from Thomas, but he’s exceeded everyone’s expectations.

On the young season, Thomas has thrown for 1,060 yards, and 13 touchdowns and added 219 yards on the ground. Speaking of the ground attack, Oregon is No. 2 in the country, averaging 331 yards a game, with back LaMichael James carrying the load.

James may be in line for 1st Team All-American status right now, as he has rushed for 712 yards on the season, which is second in the country to only Denard Robinson. Maybe just as impressive, is that James was suspended for the Ducks first game of the year. Wow!

As for Washington State, not a lot has gone right for the Cougars, but they are battle-tested and won’t back down in this one. The one place that they have found some success this year is behind the passing of quarterback Jeff Tuel.

Granted that Tuel is only passing so much because the defense puts this team in a hole every game, but still. On the year, the sophomore has thrown for 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns, leading college football’s 16th ranked passing offense. Marquess Wilson leads this team with 25 catches.

Still, when looking at the NCAA Football Line, it’s hard to see any scenario where Oregon will not win by a major margin.

The biggest cause for concern is the Washington State defense against this Oregon offense. The Cougars are allowing 42 points per game, which ranks them 116th out of 120 Division 1 teams, and going up against the No. 1 scoring offense in the country, no point spread seems enough.

The Cougars are especially susceptible in the running game, where they allow 255 yards a game on the ground. That is music to the ears of Chip Kelly and this offense.

The No. 2 rushing offense vs. the No. 117 rushing defense just about says it all. Oregon is going to win this game, and win it big. It doesn’t hurt that the Ducks offense is also pretty underrated as well, and has only given up seven points the entire year after halftime.

Not only is Oregon going to win this game, they’re go to win it big. Take them as your NCAA Football Line Pick.
